چکیده

Abstract Filler’s presence in hot-mix asphalt (HMA) is even though minimal but they do affect its durability characteristics. Many natural and waste materials the form of fillers have been studied for their effectiveness on HMA mix design performance However, practice, stone dust (SD) preferred filler due to abundance, ease availability, cost-effectiveness. Thus, major objective this study was investigate effect locally available materials: (SD)- natural, hydrated lime (HL) – processed, rice-husk ash (RHA) fly-ash (FHA)-waste properties based factors such as field utilization, cost, sustainability, while at same time identify anomalies those selected if any. A viscosity grade (VG-30) binder checked fundamental consistency characteristics set forth Indian standards. In study, aggregate gradation structure specified bituminous concrete grading 1 (BC ) India designed preparation evaluation four mixes: (a) BC with SD -SD), (b) RHA -RHA), (c) FA -FA), d) HL -HL). Fillers: RHA, FA, were physico-chemical properties. The most recommended dosage 4% by weight kept uniform various mixes. Marshall method performed optimum content (OAC) different BC1 test results methylene blue value (MBV), german (GFV), fineness modulus (FM) indicated that includes more micron-to-nano sized particles than other two (HL FA). scanning electron microscope coupled energy dispersive X-ray showed exhibited similar chemical composition, identified be a calcium-based compound. -RHA resulted non-cohesive ranging from 4.5 6.5%. Additionally, contents range 7 9% compacted samples failed yield air voids required arrive OAC. - highest stability (26.97 KN) followed -HL (23.97 kN), -SD (17.9 kN). Also, retained all three mixes close proximity each indicative affinity asphalt. resistance moisture susceptibility better anti-stripping element SD. Among filler-based mixes, adjudged an effective resistant -FA, -SD. single not only tends improve parameters abundance cost-effective yet explored.

Effects of Warm-mix Asphalt Additives on Asphalt Mixture Characteristics and Pavement Performance

The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the feasibility of several WMA mixtures as potential asphalt paving mixtures for Nebraska pavements. To that end, three well-known WMA additives (i.e., Sasobit, Evotherm, and Advera synthetic zeolite) were evaluated. For a more realistic evaluation of the WMA approaches, trial pavement sections of the WMA mixtures and their HMA counterparts ...

Influence of Waxes on Bitumen and Asphalt Concrete Mixture Performance

This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. Effects of wax in crude oil, bitu...

Infrared Thermography Revolutionizes Hot-Mix Asphalt Paving

Hot-mix asphalt (HMA) surfaces comprise about 90% of the highways and roads in the U.S. Highways and are typically engineered to last 15 years or more, but many have been failing early due to potholes, cracks, raveling, and other problems. This premature road failure unnecessarily wastes millions of taxpayer dollars every year. This paper describes a series of research studies that were conduct...

Performance of Recycled Asphalt Shingles in Hot Mix Asphalt: TPF-5(213)

US transportation agencies have been increasingly using recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) in hot mix asphalt (HMA) applications over the last 25 years. Initial use of RAS started with recycled postmanufacturers shingles, but now agencies are showing a growing interest in using post-consumer (tear-off) RAS in asphalt applications. Post-consumer asphalt shingles typically have 20 to 30 percent asph...
